If I had to guess, I’d say they’re digging for Cadbury mini eggs. I’m kind of smitten with these little characters – like I really don’t think I’m going to be able to eat one. You know what the best part is? They’re all cupcake and buttercream and chocolate! So on second thought, maybe I will be able to eat one. The dilemmas I face on a daily basis… And they’re actually pretty easy to put together. Sprinkle on a little luster dust and they’ll definitely add some sparkle to your Easter celebration!
I’ve seen a few bunny butt cakes floating around and I thought it would be so cute to create a cupcake. As usual, I filed that thought somewhere in the back of my head till it brewed. Then it hit me last week that if I make the paws out of candy melts and scoop out a bit of the cupcake to create the bunny butt, I just may be on to something. I was so excited when it worked, and they turned out even cuter than I thought! And do you see their little paws sparkling away??
Okay, so let me take you through the process so you can see just how simple it is. You want to start with frozen cupcakes – it will make your life easier. You then want to scoop a bit of the cupcake out using a small cookie scoop. Remember – you’re scooping a small amount, you’re not digging for gold. Next pipe some grass on top of the cupcake using your favorite buttercream. I give info on all tips I use below. Then place scooped cake on top.
All that’s left to do now is pipe more buttercream to make the bunnies as fluffy as you want. The fluffier the better, if you ask me. Don’t forget to give them little tails and a hint of luster dust just gives them a slight shimmer. Stick the paws on and you’re done! And the paws couldn’t be easier. You’ll find complete instructions below and after you make a few, you’ll get the hang of it.
Pretty easy and seriously adorable. This is also a really great project for kids so get baking this weekend! I want to wish you all a Happy Easter and I hope you enjoy your weekend!
Ingredients
- Your choice of cupcakes, baked & frozen
- small cookie scoop
- 1 batch buttercream
- green food coloring
- white candy melts
- pink candy melts
- disposable piping bags
- tip #133 for grass
- tip #24 for bunny butt
- tip #20 for bunny tail
- baby pink luster dust or disco dust - if you're into sparkles!
Instructions
- Make feet: Melt white candy melts and pour into disposable piping bag. Pipe little paws on parchment paper and allow to dry.
- Once they are dry, melt pink chocolate and fill disposable piping bag. Turn white paws over and pipe pink paw prints on top. Quickly sprinkle a little disco dust on top if you wish.
- Starting with frozen cupcakes, scoop a small round out of the top with a small cookie scoop.
- Place little scoops of cake back in the freezer.
- Tint half the buttercream green - I used leaf green, and ice cupcakes. Make sure to cover the area you scooped. This doesn't have to look perfect, it's just a base.
- Fill piping bag with green buttercream and using tip #133 pipe grass on cupcakes.
- Place frozen cake ball on top of cupcake and decorate with white buttercream. I used tip #24 and piped a shell border around it to make it look fluffy.
- Using tip #20, pipe a small rosette to create the tail.
- Attach feet and sprinkle a little sparkle over the tops to add a little shimmer.

What tip did you use for the feet? Very cute and I just baked the cupcakes so later I will make the feet but needing to know how to get the shape.
Thank you
bblondie says
Thanks, Kathi! I don’t use a tip to pipe the feet. I filled a disposable pastry bag and just snipped a small hole. Then I piped an oval shape, making them a little narrower on one end for the paws. Hope you enjoy them!

Since we are spring break this week and I don’t have to work, these will most definitely be on the dessert table Sunday for our Easter feast! Thanks for sharing. Have a happy Easter !
