We have officially reached that point in summer where I refuse to turn the oven on and ice cream is a completely acceptable dinner. Add homemade magic shell to the situation and it’s like all of a sudden you’re back to the days where the biggest decision to be made was what flavor ice cream should I have?
It was always like hitting the jackpot when not only did mom buy ice cream, but there was magic shell in the house! I don’t even know if I actually liked the stuff back then, but I was completely mesmerized by it. Fast forward to today and I can tell you I’m still mesmerized by it, and I love it!
All it takes is two ingredients and you’re done! Spoon it over your favorite ice cream, like The Best Chocolate Ice Cream or Kahlua Cookies and Cream, add some sprinkles and dinner is served 😉
Enjoy the video and if you try this recipe, make sure to upload a pic using hashtag #ButtercreamBlondie. I love to see your bakes!
Ingredients
- 6 ounces (1 cup) chocolate - I prefer a good quality dark chocolate
- 2 Tbsp. coconut oil
Instructions
- Melt chocolate and coconut oil in a double boiler.
- Spoon over ice cream or transfer to a jar and store at room temperature until ready to use.
- If magic shell hardens up in the jar, pop it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds until it's fluid again.
Notes
I suggest using refined coconut oil because it will not impart coconut flavor.

at first I thought ‘coconut oil’ but I will take your word that it will not impact the flavour. The only kid in my house is my husband so Coconut oil is now on my shopping list. Thank you xoxo

I like the way you rationalize dinner! I often start with dessert 🙂 In my day it was having vanilla ice cream and Hershey’s syrup for an after dinner treat. But this easy to make magic shell would be a hit with my family! xo
