Time to break out the piping bags and sprinkles! Recently, I had the pleasure of spending the day at Salon’s studio, filming some fun desserts. We talked boozy sweets, made a gorgeous and decadent Valentine’s Day dessert that I cannot wait to share with you, and whipped up a batch of buttercream to teach you how to pipe buttercream like a pro.
Piping is one of my most favorite things to do, and for me it’s something where having a visual is incredibly helpful. If you’ve ever thought piping looks really hard, or it’s just not your thing, this is definitely going to help you! It’s one of those things that looks more complicated than it actually is, and I’ve learned that watching something and then actually doing it yourself is the key. Don’t worry if your first cupcake isn’t the cream of the crop either. Like anything else, it takes a little practice and a little patience. Once you get the hang of it and start having fun with it, you’ll see the difference.
I also spilled all my tips and tricks on piping with Salon, including how I really feel about using a Ziplock as a piping bag, so be sure to check it out! Oh, and if you’ve ever wondered why your sprinkles aren’t sticking to the buttercream, you’re about to be clued in!
I hope you guys enjoy the video. I think this is a great place to start with decorating, and once you get this down, and get comfortable using a piping bag, you’ll find it so much easier to try different techniques.
Speaking of piping bags, I shared my how-to fill a piping bag video over on Instagram the other day so make sure to check it out. It’s super helpful, and I love how you can save it and quickly reference it whenever you’re going to decorate.
With the right tools, some practice, and a sprinkle of confidence, you’ll be well on your way to creating picture perfect sweets!
Happy baking! xo
