Peanut Butter Turtle Caramel Apples

The first post after Thanksgiving is always one of my favorites!  While everyone is making lists and thinking about shopping, my mind is swirling with Christmas cookies, holiday cakes and confections. And sprinkles, always sprinkles!  The holiday baking season is finally here and all I can say is prepare yourself!  We’re kicking things off today with peanut butter turtle caramel apples, also known as, the ultimate homemade caramel apple.

Caramel apples are pretty decadent to begin with, but today we’re going to a whole new level.  These sinful treats are another holiday recipe I developed for my friends at Farberware for their #SeasonsToCelebrate campaign.  Remember the Halloween caramel apples that were dripping in sprinkles?  Be still, my beating heart!  Well this time I wanted more, and what better time for more than the holidays?

I took the classic turtle candy and turned it into an apple coating.  Homemade caramel, chocolate and toasted pecans is divine on its own, but magical when you add peanut butter!  Complete madness, I know, but go with it.  It’s the holidays, so this is all totally acceptable!  Also, can we talk about these peanut butter chips?  Let’s just say extremely dangerous to keep in the house, like Biscoff dangerous… You should run out and pick up a bag or three immediately.

This all worked even better than I anticipated.  I used large Fuji organic apples and it’s like the moment they initially take the plunge into the caramel, you know this is going to be incredible.  I highly recommend using organic apples because regular ones usually have a waxy coating which can cause the caramel to slide right off.  You don’t have any of those issues with organic.  Next, they took a quick dip in chocolate and were covered in toasted pecans and peanut butter chips.

You can completely submerge the caramel apples in chocolate, or leave a little caramel exposed on top.  I did both and prefer to see a little caramel.  I also drizzled a little chocolate right on top of the apple around the craft stick to make sure it was secure because these are heavy!

Once they’re dressed to the nines, these festive treats are perfect for holiday parties.  Set a few out at room temperature, slice them up for sharing and you’re all set!  All in one bite, you get the crisp apple, buttery caramel, smooth chocolate, sinful peanut butter and a crunch from the pecans.  I could go for a bite right now!

These are also fantastic for gifting all wrapped up in treat bags and decorated with pretty bows!  Make sure to head over to Farberware for the recipe!
