Happy Friday, friends! I wanted to pop in and add a little sparkle to your weekend with my latest cake. This pink and purple striped cake was so much fun to make and incredibly hard to part with! I’m not big on letting the sparkles go…
This was a birthday cake I recently created and I must admit, I knew from the beginning I was never going to want to part with it. I was going on pink, purple, girly and sparkles – music to my ears! The cake itself was chocolate with a cookies and cream filling, all wrapped in my signature vanilla buttercream. It’s my favorite cake and it’s one of those cakes that everyone loves. Even people who say they’re not into chocolate (um, how do people like that even exist?!) love this cake! Magic, maybe?
The outside was done in pink, white and purple buttercream stripes and I piped ombre rosettes all along the border to tie it all together.
It looked good, but it needed a pop, which is when I remembered the little pink shimmery candies I picked up a few weeks ago! Impulse buy to the rescue! I whipped up a little princess sprinkle mix and we were in business! A little sparkle sprinkled over the top and ta-da, the princess cake was ready to go!
Happy to report the birthday girl was delighted with her cake and all I know is, if this was my birthday cake when I was 10, I would have collapsed! Let’s be serious, if this was my birthday cake now, I’d probably collapse!
Thanks so much for reading, guys! Big thanks for all your feedback on my how-to fill a piping bag video too! I’m SO happy you guys found it helpful and there’s more videos coming your way soon – promise! By the way, is this striped technique something you’d like to see a tutorial on?
Stay tuned on Instagram for even more cakes and remember to tag me and use the #ButtercreamBlondie hashtag so I can see your bakes!
Happy baking!

You absolutely rock my food-consumed-brain (read: dessert-consumer!). I’ve missed having more posts from you this summer. This one is gorgeous.
By the way: THANK YOU for the give away of the Farberware 12-Piece PURECOOK Ceramic Nonstick Cookware Set in Aqua. It TRULY IS everything you said it was. It is SO non-stick; it’s pretty: and thanks to your give away-mine. Even after working in restaurants for 18 years-before teaching food classes as a Home Economics teacher for another 12, I never bought a matching cookware set. Now I have one. 🙂
Good thing I don’t live in your neighborhood, I’d most likely be following my nose to all the smells coming out of your kitchen, and maybe even more creepy, lurking outside your windows 🙁 OK-that’s just a weird thing to say to a stranger-but you’re safe-I’m a west coast girl!
Oh, that reminds me, on another note, I shoot Single Action Cowboy and am a member of S.A.S.S. where we reenact shot-outs of the Old West using firearms of the 19th century. Part of the fun of that is 1) period costumes!!! and 2) not using our real names. We all go by an alias, instead. Took me a long time to think up an alias but I finally went with: Buttercup Bandit. Once I registered the name with SASS, I realized I MAY have patterned that after Buttercream Blondie… because the letters and rhythm of the two are so alike. At any rate, your blog is right up my alley and I share my favorites from here with many people-most notably, your orange cranberry bread. It is sinful; and why haven’t we ALWAYS been putting a block of cream cheese in our quick breads for all these years?
Take Care,
Robin

Hi Robin! Thanks so much! I am so happy you’re loving the Farberware set – isn’t it fantastic?! Thanks so much for always visiting, I always think of you when I make the cranberry orange bread, and I totally agree with the cream cheese in quick breads! You can expect more recipes and posts over the next few months, along with some new videos. Thanks again for reading and sharing with your friends – it’s greatly appreciated, and I love the name Buttercup Bandit!!!
P.S. If you lived closer, I’d happily share some desserts with you!
