The Frozen Aspen: the Ultimate Boozy Shake!

The Frozen Aspen: the Ultimate Boozy Shake! | ButtercreamBlondie.com

Kahlua, Baileys and Frangelico, oh my!  This is some serious business guys.  The Frozen Aspen or as I like to call it: the ultimate boozy shake is exactly what you need on a Friday.  It’s probably what you need on a Monday too, or any other day of the week for that matter!

A few months back when I was on my cruise, we spent a good amount of time at this little cafe on the ship called Cafe al Bacio.  Due to a rainy and cold first few days at sea and some sad coffee in the dining room, this warm, cozy little spot was definitely the place to be.  Normally I just want regular coffee, nothing fancy, but that all changed when my friend pointed out “the Aspen.”  Hot coffee, Baileys, Frangelico and Kahlua – twist my arm, why don’t you?  One sip and we were hooked.

Over the next few days we met the lovely Anna who worked at the cafe.  Anna truly made the best Aspens and didn’t take no for an answer when she asked if we wanted dessert.  And on that note, the coconut cake was so good – I can’t even handle it.  At some point while we were chatting, Anna told us she could make us frozen Aspens.  Our eyes lit up – you would think we won the lotto or something.

While the regular Aspens were good, the frozen Aspen was it.  Blended to perfection with a little extra Baileys and nice dose of whipped cream, I actually passed up a mango margarita in favor of it on more than one occasion – that’s major.  I don’t know exactly how Anna made them, but I knew they were fabulous and I knew I would have to create my own version once I got home.

Fast forward to my Kahlua Cookies and Cream Ice Cream and it was all ding, ding, ding.  Yep, it had to be done.  Kahlua cookies and cream ice cream, Frangelico and Baileys all went into the blender. If I could throw myself in, I might have.  I made some Kahlua whipped cream to top it all off and a few crumbled Oreos don’t hurt.  It was everything I loved about that drink and then some.  Just in case you don’t have Kahlua cookies and cream ice cream in your freezer, I added substitutions in the notes section below because everyone should have a frozen Aspen.

All I can tell you guys is I love my boozy shakes and this one definitely takes the cake.  Oh, and that dreamy coconut cake I mentioned, that will be making an appearance here in the near future too. Cheers!

The Frozen Aspen: the Ultimate Boozy Shake!

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Yield: 2 big shakes

Ingredients

    Frozen Aspen
  • 4 big scoops (32 oz.) Kahlua Cookies and Cream Ice Cream
  • 4 Tbsp. (2 ounces) Frangelico
  • 6 Tbsp. (3 ounces) Baileys
  • 1 Tbsp. (.5 ounce) heavy cream
  • 2 Oreos for garnish, if desired
  • Kahlua Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Kahlua

Instructions

    For the shake:
  1. Combine all ingredients in blender and combine till thick and frothy.
  2. For the boozy whipped cream:
  3. Whip heavy cream and powdered sugar till soft peaks form.
  4. Add Kahlua and continue to whip till stiff.
  5. Spoon on top of shakes and garnish with crumbled Oreos.

Notes

If you do not have Kahlua cookies and cream ice ream in your freezer: Buy coffee ice cream and add 6-8 Oreos when blending. Rather than adding 4 Tbsp. Frangelico, add 2 Tbsp. Frangelico & 2 Tbsp. Kahlua.

I’m not a huge fan of shakes, but when it’s boozy deliciousness, why not! 😀
